Lower back discomfort

I have recently had my 1997 Kona Explosif nicked and whilst I am waiting for the insurance company to sort me out with a replacement of some sort I have bought a second hand Parkpre 825 from around the late nineties so I have something to get me round on. Now this was something of find, it's a bloody brilliant frame and the bike is well specced out, my intention is to put some commuter tyres on it and use it as a run around. The problem is that after a few rides and a fair bit of tweaking the bike gives me a slightly sore lower back. The bike has a long flatish stem and flat bars whereas my old kona had riders bars and a shorter riser stem. Is this likely to be the cause of my lower back discomfort? Am I just not used to a sportier ride position and given some time I will get used to it? Should I just get a new stem and riser bars? Could it be something else????

I'm not technical or an expert but the slightest alteration to my riding postion can make my back ache. sometimes my seat slips and if this isn't in the right postion my hips or knees hurt too. (I've scored a mark on the seat post so I can check it now)

Shame about the Explosif, I had one of those and like most former Explosif owners I now wish I hadn't sold it.

The more stretched riding position is almost certainly what's causing the back ache but if I were you I would persist because the back should become accustomed to the new position. It's a question of building tone in the right muscles.

FWIW I changed from hybrid to tourer at the turn of the year. The more sportier position caused me to have a sore back after the first week, but that soon eased as my body got used to the new riding position. If you set up to be as comfortable as you can, I'm sure you'll adapt.

Thanks, I'll persist for a few more weeks then. I didn't want to go forking out for new bars and stem if it was a sizing or geometry issue or if it was simply because I have had ten years in a diferent, less aggressive riding position.
