I've been looking for a nice and tame light to mount on my helmet but I can only find lights which are quite poweful with relatively short runtimes. I used a Moon Gem 1.0 before (3-6 lumens!) which was powerful enough as a 'be seen' helmet light but it suffered from poor runtime and I found it dying a lot in the middle of rides. I had a look at the lezyne micro and macro but their minimum outputs were 50 and 100 lumens respectively which I think is a bit bright for a helmet, plus the longest they'd last is 5 hours in those settings. I don't mind if a light is bright, I just need it to have an ultra low mode with a longer run time.

Does anybody have any suggestions? Ah, forgot to mention that rechargability is a must.

I don't want to have to buy something only to spend hours atttempting to change the circuitry with the possibility of failing.

I use Ay Up both on my head and on the bike. Very versatile system.

I think that looks a bit overkill for what I want, I already have a light to 'see with' and that looks like a lot of light to be stripping to a helmet for road riding.
Lezyne femto? Small, unobtrusive easy to fit, runs on a couple of CR2032 batteries so dead easy to carry a couple of spares in a trouser pocket, good run time and cheap.
You can't really mount that to a helmet and I'd prefer it to be rechargable...

Thanks for the suggestions though guys.

I use a Fenix E05 on my lid (low, the default when switched on = 8 lumens, with corresponding huge runtime). I wanted something mainly to see locks etc (good enough for that). & granted, this is AAA territory rather than built in rechargable battery.

That's a great idea, I don't know why I didn't think of that since I have a tiny Fenix and a medium sized Fenix; they are cracking lights. I'm ordering an E12 and this mount. 8 lumens for the road and 50/130 for the trails

Time to dust off my rechargable AAs... Cheers.
