Loose Lock ring

I put a new chain and cassette on my mate's bike the other week and to my surprise his lockring after 6000 miles was only finger tight. Anyway I put the new cassette on and everything seemed to be shifting fine a week later (tonight) his chain started jumping on the middle gears and when I looked at his cassette it seemed loose. He going to take it to a lbs but I'm curious is it likely that the lockring is working its way loose, the cassette becoming loose and causing the chain to jump.

the lock ring has serated edges that engage with the cassette - if domne up to correct torque - this is stated on the lock ring, it should not undo. another diesign I have seen has a wavy thin washer.

I have had one ome a bit loose but when tightened up has been ok since.

it is hard to say without seeing or being there to know what is the cause of your undoing.

I've never had a problem when I've changed cassette but my rings have alays been tight before I started. I can't say for sure but maybe his has been loose for 6000 miles ! I was going to tighten it back up for him (its the standard shimano type) but he didn't have any lights and wanted to get home before dark rather than detouring to my place.

Its a 10 speed, there was one spare spacer but it wouldn't fit do you think it'd have been needed, there wasn't one on the removed cassette.

I've not progressed to 10 speed on my bikes yet, so I'm not familiar with the cassettes, however if a spacer was included I'd assume somewhere along the lines it was needed.
