As in the title, I've been tasked with finding the best puncture protected city style tires for a family member, with a budget of £15 per tire.

The current (stock) tires are getting 2+ punctures a week, mostly thorns, so something tough is needed.

I've been looking at:

Schwalbe Landcruisers, Continental Tour Ride and Vittoria Randonneur Cross.

Most reviews are along the lines of "I've only ridden on these tires twice but they seem quite puncture protected", so input from anyone who has ridden on these (or other similar) tires for an extended period is welcomed!

Looking for 700x32-42ish tires with a little bit of tread, but not full on knobblies.

Thanks!

I'm using Landcruisers - they work well. No punctures so far on the MTB (26 x 1.75" used) ...

I can't say they're quick, although faster than the Kenda knobblies, but they do work.

I was thinking Radonneurs as I clicked on the thread, good value general road and light trail tyre but I found them to be absolute swines to get on and off. I'd rather do Marathon Plus's

I ride both on different bikes. Both are difficult to mount and both are very puncture resistant though the M+ are little more so. However the Randonneur City are a nicer ride [softer sidewalls] and grip a little better in the wet.

I am presently riding with a Randonneur on back of my Sirrus. Cost £11 each a few months back. I had no problem putting it on and no problems so far.

Amazon price matched that Randonneur but offered the 32mm instead of 28mm.
Guess what, they cancelled my order last week!
Wish I'd ordered both 28 and 32 though lucky I still have a decent stock of Marathon XR.

I'm running Conti Tour Rides in 26x1.75 on my knockabout bike and like them a lot - grippy & roll pretty well. They've done about 2000 miles now and hardly look worn. I have suffered 1 puncture - from a hawthorn a few weeks ago that caused a slow deflation.

Even that wasn't really a big deal as the puncture protection prevented the thorn getting all the way in, allowing me to get home and do the repair at my leisure. Better than all the previous occasions when I've picked up a thorn & the tyres have been flat within a mile.

These tyres don't work well in mud, so for winter bridleway use I'm considering something like the Landcruisers.

I've recently started using Vittoria Randonneur Hyper (which are the most expensive of the Randonneurs, I think). I've covered a few hundred miles with them, and I'm happy with them so far. They're the first wider (than 25mm) tyres I've ever used, so I don't have anything similar to compare with.

Before these, I used Vittoria Rubino Pros for years, and the reason I decided to stick with Vittoria when I changed to a wider tyre is because, in 4 years (including commuting on Cornish lanes in the dark), I didn't have a single puncture with the Rubino Pros. My OH has had the same pair of Rubino Pros on her bike for about 8,000 puncture-free miles, and she's thinking about replacing them now, not because they're starting to puncture - they're not - but because all the shallow cuts they've accumulated over the miles are starting to make them look a bit scruffy.

I don't think the Randonneurs will last as long as the Rubino Pros (although I have high expectations for their puncture protection) because the rubber feels a bit softer, so I think they'll cut up more, but that might be because I deliberately chose the most "roadified" version, with the least tread.

Well after all the recommendations for Radonneurs I decided on the Radonneur cross tires, as a bit more tread was needed. Except there was only one in stock. Ended up buying the Conti's on Rickshaw Phil's recommendation. Thanks for the input guys!
