Hi all,
So, I've broken the back wheel on my current cheap single speed (can't be fixed) and decided to take the plunge and get something just a little better, instead of pouring more money after this one!

One of my main requirements was for disc brakes, but from a quick look I'm failing to find much within my price range that will provide that. I have also considered looking at hub gears, as spotted some interesting deals!

Basically, it's about having something that's fairly fun to ride, very easy maintenance, and not so gorgeous that someone wants to nick it! (although I may put horrible paint or tape on after to achieve that). I would love to spend under £300, but may go a bit higher for the right bike.

Happy to be flexible and take any pointers, but here to start are some options that I've found online today:

This one did hit all the spots, but is £400

Marin Fairfax with Shimano nexus hub for £325

Charge Plug 1 @ £300+

Bit leftfield, but there is the Revolution cyclocross inspired single speed for £250

Mango bikes single speed for £270+?

Why not just get a replacement wheel for your current bike? The old one is probably your best option for minimum desirability to the light fingered scrotes'. Is your current bike no fun to ride when it is working normally?

Current bike not a lot of fun to ride, and although I'm not looking to go expensive pretty much anything would be an upgrade! It also needs a bit of other work.

Have a look at second hand to keep the cost down.

I'm always a bit wary of 2nd hand as I don't do much of the work on the bike myself, so if it needs any work then I end up paying for that on top. Saying that, my last one was 2nd hand and did fairly well for a bit!

I' mainly now veering between the two, completely different bikes! I think that disc brakes are pretty important to me, but not 100% sure on exactly what I want to spend, or whether I will end up going SS or Hub gear.

Genesis Day 1 10 2016, with SS & disc brakes.
Looks like an amazing ride and a lot of fun!

Vitus Dee 29 VR, with Nexus 3 speed & discs.
This is a decent bit cheaper, amazing spec' for money and looks decent.

I would be really interested to hear what anyone thinks of the Vitus (owners and otherwise) and in fact may start a separate thread on it, as I'm very tempted!

Second hand Quella.
That is all

Had a look at the website? What's so good about them? Looks like their cheapest model, the Nero is cheap enough without going 2nd hand.

Cool,even better.
I just thought you could get one of the dearer ones(and they are not dear as you know) for pennies.
I think they look good, ride well and are a British based bike company.
True,I have only jumped on one for about 6 miles, but it felt solid and fluent .
Just a thought for consideration.
