I have developed an allergy to the sun and should keep my arms covered in the sun. What long sleeved gear can anybody recommend that is cool in the summer and keeps UV away.

Currently 30 quid off last year's Gore oxygen LS at Wiggle. I've just bought one and it's very light weight, but long sleeved.

Ground Effect (of NZ) do a number of long sleeved, UV protections shirts. Not cheap but they might float your boat AND do the job.

Edit: I have the Rock Lobster and have worn it frequently over the last few summers. It's a curious construction because the fabric seems quite heavy for a summer shirt but it does work. Of course, in the 30°c plus temperatures that we get here, you still get warm but it does keep the sun off of you.

You have my sympathy. I'm allergic to so many things it gets ridiculous.

Perhaps a decent base layer L/S top would do the trick? Too many to list but I'm sure you'll find many at not too bad a price.

There are quite a few l/s jerseys that are no 'thicker' than summer s/s jerseys. Many are. Worth popping down to a bike shop to check a few out. I have Pearl Izzumi and a Specialized top that can be worn on warmer days.

I have been using an altura one called transformer. the arms zip off for when it is warmer and not too sunny (I come up in pinhead sized blisters over my arms & legs if they see too much sunshine by which I mean around 30 mins unless I have put factor 50 on!)... It is nowhere near as warm as my winter one which is a really good thing but is windproof (sadly). The 2012 men's version (not sure what sex you are) is currently heavily reduced at wiggle

Reviving this thread I should protect arms and legs due to a previous melanoma 'incident'. I see most suggestions are for tops but here in Spain I find my legs burning far more than arms. I am looking for summer weight lycra longs with UV protection.

I just cycle in leggings all year round. They don't officially offer any protection, but my skin is as fair as you can get plus a redhead to add to the mix. On top of that I have an issue with one of my legs after a nasty dog bite, I can't feel half of the back of one of my calves so can't tell if it is burning or not.

I use late spring/early autumn leggings that Assos do and have never had any issues. I know they can be very warm on hot days, but for me that is preferable to burning and I have never burnt through them.
