Hello All!

I'm new to this cycle chat malarky but as I'm training for a very long cycle ride for Charity, just wondering if there were any cyclists in the East End area/ or general London vicinity who might want to join me for long rides - discover some new routes and generally share bike tips and bits.

I'm also in the process of starting giving an old Peugeot some TLC/renovation so any hobbyists out there who want a look in with it, I'm all ears.

P.S I am no expert so if you start throwing bike technical talk at me, excuse my ignorance if I go - what's that??

Thanks

Hi and Welcome!!!

It all depends what you mean by a long ride. Every Sunday there's a pootle around somewhere in London that kicks off at Hyde Park Corner at 9.30am. It's usually around 30-50 miles in total.

For a longer ride there is the Friday Night Ride to the Coast which also kicks off at HPC (see here). There's usually a group that rides back on the Saturday morning which makes a total of around 110 - 150 miles depending on where the ride went.

Also if you look in the informal rides section, there's usually something going on. HaloJ has set herself a target of at least 1 hundred miler a month. Flying Dodo arranges some fantastic rides out (again some people cycle back again making it over 100 miles).

If none of this tickles your fancy, draw up a route, stick it in informal rides and you'll get some volunteers to accompany you. I'm up for most rides around the 100 mile mark so long as it's not raining.

Thanks for your reply. That's really helpful for the future, the Night rides look great. Though on a more immediate level, is the 'Every Sunday there's a pootle around somewhere in London that kicks off at Hyde Park Corner at 9.30am. It's usually around 30-50 miles in total' happening this sunday? If I've missed something from the page you sent, then apologies I did scan it through a few times.
I'd love to get involved with the HPC rides on a sunday, sounds like a perfect training amount of miles.

Hi

The Sunday London Ride thread is here. No-one has posted about this Sunday yet, so stick your head in and ask what's happening. I don't think there has ever been a Sunday without a London ride, except last Sunday when most went to Maldon apart from Arallsopp who was the only one at HPC.

Martin235 and myself are riding up to Harpenden for this ride leaving from Hyde Park Corner at 8am sharp. I'm sure there will still be some doing the regular Sunday ride.

But note that the Sunday London rides are not fast paced rides. They are nice relaxed affairs with a stop or two at various cafes for coffee and cakes. But they get you out on your bike and you can always push the pace up a bit on the way there or home.
