What happens if the rider is unable to raise the minimum sponsorship?

What happens if the rider has an accident and is unable to attend the event, or collect sponsorship due to not completing the event?

Does the rider sign any legally binding document committing to raising said amount, for which they are responsible for personally?

Just want to understand the full picture. I ask these things because in marathon running which I also do some charities ask runners to sign up to regular direct debits until they meet the fundraising total. Others have started taking runners' credit card details when they agree to take part so they can be charged if they fail to deliver the funds.

Hello, thanks very much for your reply and interest.

It depends which entry option you choose - if you choose to pay trip costs (£640) yourself then you pay these upon entry and then there are no minimum targets to reach for sponsorship or any deadlines, just as much as you would like to or are able to raise, so there is nothing binding.

If you choose the minimum sponsorship option instead then Breast Cancer Care would need to have received 80% of your sponsorship (£1,280) 6 weeks before the event before we finalise your place with the organisers. If we don't have this we are unfortunately unable to finalise your place. From previous experience cyclists do tend to raise this in time though, and many raise much more than they imagined they could!

If a cyclist is unable to take part due to injury they can transfer their place to a later trip date for an admin fee depending on how long before the trip it is.

Hope this makes answers your question but please let me know if not.

Best wishes,
