Not able to post in the charity forum, so have posted here.

Have done the normal L2B BHF ride a few times, this year's being the best as we had a clear run, with a few pub stops, great hog roast at Turners Hill.

Have noticed that there is a night run in May, which is the second one, wondered if anyone has done it, what your experience was and also the route, notice it is 60 miles instead of 54 miles.

Any comments much appreciated.

I think if you look in the Charity Rides forum there'll be loads of posts about the FNRttC (Friday Night Ride to the Coast).

I did the ride last year on behalf of the Martlets Hospice. Is a very different experience to riding the normal L2B.

I did the daytime L2B lastweekend for the first time in 30yrs. Rode with a team from work starting at 09:30. We were behind the main 'crush' so avoided too much stop/start and accidents.

BHF are now advertisisng an night version to run in May 2012. There is also a Manchester to Blackpool night ride in September. Both are similar to the day ride in that there will be organised return transport and presumably mutiple stops. I'd guess they're expecting participation in thousands with riders expected to seek sponsorship foBHF funds.

I've still to try the FNRTTC but my understanding is that these are (excepting the linked Martlets ride) fun rides organised on a voluntary basis by a dedicated and indefagitable group under the leadership of Delzeqq of this parish.

How does it differ? Im considering doing this too instead of the L2B night ride

Well for a start there's 100 people compared to 30,000!

I found that riding at night was a very different experience. I have to say cycling through the London streets with 100 other riders at half past midnight was awesome and one of the best bits. I struggled however with the cold and lack of sleep.

Because we were riding with some people who weren't regular riders we (quite rightly) stopped frequently to regroup. Problem was you had to ride at a certain speed to get the body temperature up but that then put you near the front so when we stopped you were waiting longer. After about 2:30am all I wanted to do every time we stopped was lay down at the side of the road and sleep!

If you're one of these people who can go without sleep then I'd absolutely recommend the FNRttC. I need to have my eyes shut during night time it appears!
