So Mr Plax and I are going to the theatre in Feb next year (Royal Drury Lane, tickets all booked!). Is it a bit too early to think about booking hotels? We are thinking of staying for 3-5 days and catching some other sights whilst we are there.
So any recommended hotels in the vicinity? I've never been to London before (only the outskirts) so haven't got a clue. A nice, reasonalby priced hotel near the Royal Drury would be nice.

If you want cheap and cheerful, there is a Travel Lodge at the Holborn end of Drury Lane. They often have the usual TL offers.

You could pretty much stay in any hotel in London and it would only ever be a short distance to where you want to go (on public transport).

If you're looking upmarket, the Waldorf Hilton is around the corner. I use the Swissotel (The Howard) for corporate purposes which is near Temple tube station (a short walk from Drury lane) . Lots of different rooms and very nice if you're going to treat yourself. Otherwise as Mr C. says there's plenty of budget hotels. Also keep an eye out for seasonal offers and cheapies in the weekend papers. I know if you stay 2 nights or more they usually knock off 10% for example.

Reasonable prices in London tend to be considerably higher than reasonable prices elsewhere.
Do check if breakfast is included, or not, in the price, also check if breakfast is the full works, or just a roll and coffee!
You could look at
lastminute.com or expedia.co.uk

I agree with Mr Cellophane, re Travelodge.

My sister in law and family from London stayed in Llangollen a fortnight ago and commented that on a like for like basis, London hotels were twice as expensive as Welsh ones.

I thought that the type of hotel that you frequent charge "by the hour"!

I gather that certain Lodges in busy spots near motorways can get occupancy rates of well over 100%. It must be a bit difficult for the manager having to organise changing the sheets four times a day. The giveaway is when the bed springs are still warm.
