LOL - fame at last

Four mates and I went for a ride around the New Forest on Sunday morning... Somehow we managed to end up on the same route as the cycling section of the New Forest Middle Distance Triathlon (http://www.racenewforest.co.uk) and got cheered on by the crowds as we overtook some obviously very tired competitors (we made sure to not get in anyone's way).

Anyway - along the way there were some photographers who didn't notice that we weren't wearing numbers...

The actual race looks like a killer... 1.9k swim, 90k ride, 21k run

winning time was 4hrs 23 minutes !!!


I would like to do a triathlon one day, but I swim like a brick and I can't run to save my life (my cycling isn't exactly brilliant either!)

they do one in bolton ( or have for two years now), its amazing and its both fantastic and awful watching the competitors go past.

some of the slower ones take *ages* to struggle past on the running bit at the bottom of my street....


i'd love to say 'one day', but not a chance they're men/women of steel who can do those things!

Did the photographers also not notice that you were dressed a bit differently ?

Don't Triathletes do their biking in their swimwear - or special triathlon suits ? ... not cycling jerseys with team names ???

Did I mention I went to visit friends in Maidstone to see the Rochester Classic in '97.

We were at the top of Boxley. The leading breakaway went through with police outriders. It all went quiet so my friends, myself and about four others rode down the route to Rochester. We were cheered all the way.

I can only dream what Cav must have felt like in the last 100m of the TdF this year...


It must be almost overwhelming !
