It was a good day on the whole and great weather for it but i was disappointed at the amount of RLJ'ers that felt they had a right to do so just because they where at an event

Gav a guy a hard time about RLJ at the finish - particularly because he sat in a group for several miles, never took a pull and then jumped everybody at a red light with two or three miles to go and proceeded to jump every light after that. I did manage to pull back about 150m on him coming back up through Queensway and pass about 20m before the finish with a comment on his climbing ability

Good fun event and a great day out.

I got there about 9.15 so didn't have time to do the full 90 but still managed 75 miles. The tunnel was almost empty when I went through, everyone had left over an hour earlier, but I soon caught the crowd up.

When I got to the footpath or cycle path by Dunkirk everyone had ground to a halt, I don't know if it was just a bottleneck or if there was an incident up there but everyone was off their bikes and just inching forward painfully slow, in the mean time more cyclists were pooring in making it even worse, there was no knowing how long it would take to get through so I decided to go back the way I came and caught them up again at Backford.

The hold up was due to the gates, for some reason they were not kept open and when I went through people were only using one gate at a time, that was the worst bit of the ride. Apart from that it was a great ride and brilliant weather.

Photos are on the web now as well at http://www.myfrozenphoto.com/default.aspx and select the event then type in your rider number (211 for me) or even your shirt colour, nice little system.

This is what made me laugh. People were QUEUING UP to get through that narrow gap which caused a huge bottleneck when literally inches to the left was an open invitation to run parallel to the path people were waiting to get on and yet no-one thought to go on it! Well I did and people were going 'Ooh, look at him' secretly thinking 'why the hell didn't I think of that?' This simple measure could have halved the queueing and made much less of a bottleneck.

The worst part though was being subjected to the wankywaffler Alan Jackson at the start and, more painfully, the finish. He loves the sound of his own voice, doesn't he? He is not a man who uses three words where 2,467 will do. 'Go over to the cake stand and for just one pound you can get back your blood sugar.' 'Raise the blood sugar'. Go over there and get your blood sugar'. 'Look after your blood sugar.' 'Make sure your blood sugar is alright.' Are there no barrels of inanity this Olympic-standard blert will not scrape the bottom of? At least when he's only being inflicted on us on the radio, we can switch him off but with a captive audience, wankywaffler was in his blerty element. The blert.

I was probably one of the last to register (3189). Left Liverpool at 8.45 wondering if i'd manage the full 90 miles before they closed the tunnel at 3pm. Was a marvelous day with fantastic weather. The route was terrific with only a slight niggle about the use of the aforementioned bridleway and gates. Stopped just the once, at Delamere on the return leg. Got back to Liverpool just before 2.30. There are more fantastic events in the coming months. I've pencilled in the Broken Spoke next month, followed by the Manchester 100 in September, and the Macc Monster in October
