Have been getting back into cycling (i bought my bike about 7 weeks ago) and spending hours reading numerous posts on here, i invested in some new tyres and a track pump. Put the tyres on yesterday and inflated them to the correct pressure and went out for a ride today. Well i certainly noticed a difference! My averaged speed was up by 2 mph and my top speed by 4mph!

So my advice to us newbies is listen to the advice given on this forum, they seem to know what they're talking about!

Cheers everyone

At least you found a topic we all agree on!

I'd let my winter hack tyres get a bit soft recently - a bad back meant I was putting off the effort of pumping them up (and I'm shockingly lazy about stuff like that anyway).

The difference between 1.5 bar, and 5 bar, was fairly noticeable!

I too have found this place a good source of knowledgeable banter and a bit of eco-friendly, lard busting, good fun informative interaction

And I WILL get off the fence and pick a bike to buy sometime in the not too distant future!!

Tip for today.
There's a lot of things happening in front of you, so don't become fixated on your speedo.

Ahhh - but I remember on that thread someone did tell you to underinflate if riding off road.

Yeah this forum is amazing, not only does it give very useful information. People on here have been so helpful even when asking really dumb questions. Also i sit at work reading this forum and just get the itch to go out on the bike! So its a real motivator being on here too!

I let my hack tyres go a bit soft too, I'm claiming it was on purpose, the roads were too icy . By the time I got round to things the front was down to 40psi and the rear 20 (I think thats circa 3 & 1.5 bar)

There's 14.5 psi to 1 bar so it's even less than you thought.
