Having changed the frame on my main bike this year, I have a frame spare, and a Tiagra groupo and loads of wheels. Winter bike, free frame! However the frame clearances are very tight. It won't take Cruds, but used to take Raceblade longs. However the set of these I had are knackered and they appear to have stopped making them. I could try to use the old set and make a Frankenguard, but it would be a compromise and not ideal when changing wheels, tyres etc
Are there any other options out there that might be good enough to be acceptable on a group ride? I saw a couple of sets made by Zefal in Decathlon the other day that looked possible, but don't want to waste a load of money on crap.
Thanks

Do something like THIS? (Or is that what you mean by Frankenguard!)

I think the zefal stuff is pretty good.

If cruds dont fit you are pretty much out on options.

However, Colin beat me to it, someone else had a production version of his excellent bodge.

Something a bit like that Colin. The downside to it is that the bike won't take P clips on the front because they are carbon aero forks so I would need to rely on the racebladelong fixings which are held in place by the qr skewer. Not in itself a problem but the mudguard would then only be attached by the bracket at the brake when changing a puncture out on the road, which would be mega flimsy.

An option I'm looking at when my Raceblade Longs finally give up, is to use the brake bridge fitting clips from the Longs and bolt the Crud Racers to them using the Crud's plastic screws and attach the legs of the Cruds to the stays using their own fixings as normal.

Hopefully they'll still be easily removable but it'll just take a little more time to do.

Sell the frame and buy something more suited to the job?
That is the plus £200 option if I can't get a solution sorted. Seems shame to waste a perfectly functional frame that has little or no second hand value though. It has done 14000 miles and has cracks in the joint filler/laquer so no one will buy it.

Saw these whilst looking for something for the mtb, no stock yet but maybe keep an eye out?

Thanks Potsy. My plan for bodging Crud Racers to fit has been put on hold if they are bringing them back.

I had a trial set-up this afternoon, but it requires the guards to be shortened by about 1/3 and a new hole drilling for fitting to the Raceblade clips.
