Just cycled some country lanes, and 3 mile across the fields, and compared both of these lights. i have to say, that for the country lanes, both lights on their minimum settings provided sufficient light to manage around 10-15mph, without issue. The Smart is fine for rural, street lit roads, and both are comfortable (on their own) for the unlit (and very dark) unmade routes across the fields.
When running both together on the off-road bit, on minimum settings, there was more than enough lighting to have a good speed, and on full power, really fantastic!
On the return journey, the strobe setting on the Moon, combined with the minimum Smart setting, it was also very well lit.

I would recommend either very highly, bu put them both together, and I feel you'd be hard pushed to have any issues.

On the rear, just the Smart Lunar 2, slightly angled downwards, and a Scotchguard full reflective jacket got some amazing respect from drivers - not one close pass, and lots of patience made the whole 20 miles a really wonderful ride this evening!

Is that the Smart lunar R2? It's very bright for the price but mine has the condensation problem so half the time it just won't turn off (pushing the switch does nothing), so I have to take it apart and take the batteries out to stop it which gets frustrating.

I've also got a Moon Shield 60 for the rear which is very bright and works flawlessly. It's also 3 times the price though....

I have a couple of the Smart 60 & they are good, but I find the beam a bit too narrow, especially when cornering, but excellent value :okay:

I've got a Phaart Bleep (which is a rip off of the Smart R2) and it's never given me any problems in about 3 years now. I got it for about £1.99 back when Planet X had a crazy sale. I believe the mounts of the Phaart and the more expensive Smart are identical. The Smart is probably made a little better, but besides that, I don't notice any difference whatsoever. I think the Phaart is the better light overall.

I have 2 Lunar 2s, one old and one new, but not the reghargeable ones - they've worked well for us, but we're not often out in the rain (yet!)

Not seen the Moon rear lights, but we're both really impressed by the Meteor 250 front light, very short time (<2 hrs) on full power, but we have used flashing, strobe, and low power constant, and only had them for 24 hours. We used them at dusk this evening, and I have to say, I am stunned at them!
