Last week I took my wheels off my road bike in to the LBS just to get the rims checked as I had thought that I may have worn them out. Turns out the rims still have a lot of life in them, but it was noticed one of them had cracks in the rim, but the lucky bit was it was still under warranty so I got it replaced.

But while I waited for the replacement to arrive, I dug out my other road bike and after my first 60 miler something was not right as I started to get a lot of knocking from the bottom bracket area plus I got a puncture too. Unable to find anything major wrong on the bike to cause it, went for ride the next day when my bottom bracket went completley. As I have never been unable to remove it, I took it to the LBS who repaired it for me but they also noticed my free hub was making a lot of noise, but it was OK the previous days as I had checked the bearings and listened with my ear to the frame and saddle for any strange grinding noises etc as the wheels spun. As I was unable to remove the free Hub as I did not have the allen key that fitted, it was another trip back to the LBS and on the way, my exhaust fell off the car which I hardly ever use and was about to get rid of.

Got the freehub sorted at the LBS, and then to get my exhaust sorted and discovered I had four dodgy tyres so another £200 gone.

Sorted out my back wheel and bearings, went to work, but got a good wobble on the bike, when I got home, discovered my back bearings had a slight looseness to them, plus my front wheel was hanging out as the QR skewer was not very tight, why I do not know, so I sorted them problems out.

Went to work last night and I had one hell of a wobble again, but this time I found the beading on my tyre, Armadillo all condition, was tearing off and there was a big kink in the tyre and probably contributed to the wobble the night before, so this morning one of my old Marathons has gone on the wheel till I can afford my preffered tyres. (That's now two of that make of tyre it has happened too and one that lost its outer laminate)

Plus in the middle of this little lot, my partners Sister died.

Just hope today's ride is going to be all right.

That is bad luck!

It seems that 2011 is the year of crap, these first 3 months have been crap for me too.

I got a new bike but when it was delivered there was a chip in the carbon fork thanks to the courier. Sent it back & the retailer messed me around so I cancelled the order. Re-ordered from another retailer & got a punture riding it home so changed the tyres!

Last week I noticed that the freehub was sticking so took the wheel back to the shop & waited, got a call to say they had been sent the wrong freehub so I won't see it till next Tuesday!

In the meantime, our cat was unwell & had to be put down, we have pet insurance but it only covered 50% of the bill so we now have to pay £220!

A good friend's 2 year old son has leukemia.

What do they say, it never rains, it pours. Sometimes it does and you just have to absorb it, that is a good run of bad luck though Zacklaws, let's hope it's your full quota for 2011.

Chin up dude, it can only get better.

Your right! Things can only get better, only one pedal fell off today which is better than both, I presume.

Only doing a 30 miler today as I'm working nights, just after 15 miles, without any warning my pedal slid off the axle, Ultegra SPD-L. So I had to pedal home virtually one legged and walk the steepest hill.

What made it so amusing, if that's the word, was it was exactly the same spot were my bottom bracket failed last week within a few yards and just before climbing a steep hill and at the furthest point from home on the ride.

Things can only get better though.

Whilst I was leaning on my saddle planning getting home, there was a sudden rush of air and my rear tyre went down and still have not worked out why, so replaced the inner tube just in case its a faulty valve.

Somebody must have it in for me.

And just remembered that last Sunday, I gave both my Daughter and Son £25 each to treat their Mum for Mothers day, only to find out it was not Mothers day, but I can recall that just before going to bed on Saturday night it flashed up on TV that it was Mothers Day on the Sunday. And all my daughter said was "Oh well, you can give us some more when it is" At times I feel like Al Bundy in "Married with Children"

Al Bundy Quote "What was I thinking when I said "I do"? I'd already had sex with her; I didn't need that again"

What a true statement

Blimey Zack - I thought I was having quite a lot of bike problems, but that makes my bikes seem almost reliable!

Any chance of you making it out to Whalley a week tomorrow for our flattish seaside century?

I'm working all of the weekend unfortunatley, but I will be coming over for Spring into the Dales as I have got he whole of April off on leave. And besides with my luck, you'd be on a death wish.

Also forgot when I changed my tyre this morning, pumped the tyre up to about 40lbs and checked the tyre was seated correctly, and as it was carried on pumping up to 100lbs and at 90lbs, there was a rapid deflation, on checking the inner tube, it had split along the seam and was unrepairable.

Your quite right here, if I ask my Daughter about what she has bought etc, all I get from her is "stuff", which makes me mad as she will not go into detail and want her to explain "Whats stuff", and she will just say again "stuff". It seems a strange word, stuff.

And yes, sadly my Dad succumbed to cancer but luckily he never suffered that bad, but he always did make sure we had food on the table.

Went out and did 90 miles yesterday to see if I could break my Jinx, suffered one puncture and found out the cause of why I punctured on Saturday, there was a bit of loose rim tape not stuck down which would move, possibly when fitting the tyre and partially expose a hole for access a spoke nipple, then over time it would cause a puncture.

Also got a slow puncture, but as I had twenty miles to go, I managed it with just having to pump it up twice.

Also the course I plotted on Bikeroutetoaster wanted to take me across farm land on two occasions where there was not even a track let alone a road, this was one reason why I stopped using it a while ago. Short courses are easy to check, but on long ones it is easy to miss an error like this.

See what happens today.

40 miles and not a hiccup, has my luck changed?
