hi all,

has anyone bought one of these ?

I thought at £4:99 I'll get one !

humm......first of all couldn't get it ON the valve, then, after tyre went totally flat while trying to get it on, finally pumped to 8 bar, then couldn't get it off !

old say, " get what you pay for ! "

so is it me, or has anyone else enjoyed these, cheap pumps ?

cheers

Ian

Had two. The first one gave up the ghost after about 6 uses. The 2nd one is still going strong and, so far, has given me a year and a half of good service.

If you're after a cheapish track pump, the Lifeline track pumps from wiggle are fairly cheap at £20 (not £4.99 though I know), well reviewed and mines been faultless. Not sure how accurate the gauge is, but seems fairly reasonable.

Disregard everything after " hi all "

it's me, instructions aint't that clear, and call me old fashioned , but every pump I have ever come across is lever up, put head on valve tube, then close lever down...turns out this is the other way around .....huhummmm...

muppet, read instructions more carefully next time, before you say it, yes newbie , first time trying to inflate/check a road bike presta valve !

so after doing it correctly, for £4:99' so far o good ! just hope I ain't damaged the pump head or the valves in doing it wrong!

cheers

You got it over 60 PSI yet  I bought one a few years ago, broke on first use, never again.

No - mine has a lid on it! (Only kidding ...)

I try to save money on some things but pumps get a lot of use and have significant force applied to them, so when I was going to buy a track (floor) pump I decided to pay for a good one which should last for many years, if not for the rest of my life. I paid about £45 for a very chunky metal Specialized model 12 years ago. It is still working perfectly and I think that it will continue to do so.

I'm a big fan of Lidl - good quality fresh and prepared food, presented with a minimum of packaging and at keen prices. I'm even <cough> on the email update list. But I'm not a fan of their cycling clothes or equipment. I would rather pay more and get something better designed and more durable.

As for track pumps, I got a no-name plastic barrelled jobbie which is still working perfectly 15 years later and without a gauge because you can get the pressure as accurate as you need by feel.

I have one, yes it's a bit flimsy but has worked for over a year!

I bought one from Aldi, used it with difficulty several times then went to a LBS and bought a Specialized one that has worked flawlessly since.

I don't have a lot of cash, but the investment was definitely worth it.
