Lidl once again have proberbly the best base layer clothing back on sale soon, These are the best winter clothing I've ever used while cycling, and I'll be sure to buy at least two tops and four pairs of the trousers (X2 short X2 Long) this time

You'll not believe how comfortable and warm these are until you try them.

I'm glad I read your post NormanD. I buy those long socks for Mr Campfire for work, he works in a very gold high building which is colder inside than out and suffers from cold feet due to heart tablets. I'm going there today actually for something else. Hope they have some size 12 ones left!!! Thanks for information.

I bought some Merino thermals last year from Aldi for me, they didn't have any to fit himself, but will start to look out for them. The quality of the Merino compares well to my more expensive North Cape ? I think, stuff, very fine, smooth.

Think I will have to get me one of those tops - Always seem to suffer the cold around my kidneys no matter what base layers i wear.

Odlo do a cycle-specific base layer with a special fleecy band across the back for exactly this reason. Sadly I find it all a bit too much especially under bib longs

Blimey! All that pseudo-science must keep you toasty!

I'm going to have to put a contrary view. I have a couple of the tops - they look great and are toasty warm at first.

However, my experience has been that the fabric loses its insulation with not that much moisture buildup and then stays damp, even if you knock the effort back. I have had some very cold and clammy 25 milers with these base layers where I was only warm for the first ten miles or so.

On the other hand, Mountain Warehouse thermals, as recommended by someone on this forum a while ago, wick a lot better and, using the same breathable outer layer(s) as for the Lidl tops, keep me warm throughout a ride.
