Leyznene Macro Drive or Cateye Volt 300 ?

I'm going to invest in a new front light over the weekend the Leyznene Macro Drive and the Cateye Volt 300 seam to fit the bill of a self contained light of decent power without breakin the bank. Has anybody any experience of these and their comments would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I'm going into my second winter on the lezyne and it's holding out well having been dropped a couple of times. Nice, solid construction. Someone else here said the internal battery on theirs was holding a reduced charge after a year or so (I think they said) but I haven't noticed it with mine. The brightest setting is more than enough to see by on the short stretches of unlit commute I experience. I was behind a bloke going through an unlit park and he asked me what I was using as he thought it was good. said he thought it was a motorbike headlight. On lit streets I use the lowest of the three settings and it's still brighter than the vast majoroty of lights you see around. I tend to recharge about once a week and I usually have it on a constant beam morning during morning and night commutes as well as all the sundry going places. It's quite a focussed beam so you don't see an awful lot away to the side.
I'd buy it again. Good commuting light. No experience of your other option tho.

Thanks, the Cateye seems to be an almost identical copy of the Leyznene. I've heard some stories about the Leyznene clamp not being the best and the light popping out (I'm thinking a rubber band would stop this), have you experienced any problems with the mount?

I've had no problems with that, seems very secure over cobbles etc. I really like the mount, very easy to click in and out of. It attaches to the bar with a rubber band of sorts. This occasionally slips in wet weather so the light points downwards (going over aforementioned cobbles for eg) but it would be easy fix to stop this from happening. I haven't bothered cos it's not a a big enough isue. I just readjust the light.

I've had the Leyzene Macro for over a year now, it is brilliant in my opinion. I was a bit worried about the mount to start with, but not had any problems with it, it clips in really strongly and you can adjust the angle very easily (point at the ground through town, but easy to angle upwards for the unlit roads). It is bright enough to be able to ride along unlit roads at 20mph+ and the USB charge works fine.

As mentioned it is a very direct beam, but that has never been a problem, it is the only front light I have (spare in the bag) and does everything I need.

The Volt had just been released but it was well reviewed in C+ (almost identical in spec to the Macro Drive, marginally cheaper) but its replaceable battery won the day for me. It was dispatched last night I'll give it a proper review when it arrives. Thanks folk for your input.

Let us know what you think of it, it looks good from the website. Also, I like on the Parkers of Bolton website, that under "Cycle Accessories", you can get Juggling Balls...could be interesting!

All else being equal the replaceable battery's a good advantage. (Tho my LBS said they'd send mine back to lezyne for a free replacement once the battery wears out. Bit of a palaver tho.)
