Just wondering whether many people here, have or intend to, take part in one of the L'Eroica events whether in the UK or abroad?

Well, I did all 3 versions of Eroica Britannia (Bakewell, Friden Grange and the Goodwood test event) before it fell apart… shame. My little Hetchins and I, along with @BalkanExpress and a suitable bike from his stable head down to Gaiole every October for the original l'Eroica and it is rather wonderful.:okay:

I cannot speak to any Eroica rides in other countries but I have ridden Eroica California (EC) here in
my home state in the past.
Although the initial EC rides were well done, they have received less and less support from the Italian organizers
recently so I am not sure whether I will participate again.

I DO love the swap and the socializing with fellow classic steel bike riders and fans but the lack of support - apparently due to a lack of engagement from the Italians and a lack of understanding on their part about how we organize events here in the US - of late has been a real downer. (I cannot speak to any other Eroica rides in other countries.)

I've done Gaiole in 2017 & 2018 then had to pull out of 2019 with an injury then it got canned in 2020/21 when I was also signed up due to Covid. Last one on my completely restored 1961 Holdsworth Mistral 5 speed. Great events....

Sorry for having missed this first time around.

As @Specialeyes said the original eroica is the daddy: it has it all, very tough rides but through beautiful scenery, thousands of fellow enthusiasts to speak to and bikes to stare at, a vast selection of stalls to search for that piece you need, and the local wine is not bad either ^_^The down side is that the size can make it logistically complicated especially finding accomodation within a reasonable distance and at a reasonable price,

The only other event I have done of a similar scale is Anjou Vélo Vintage, which is much less hardcore but is still immense fun in its own way.

I have also ridden eroica Limburg and Germania: both on a much smaller scale that Gaiole and the riding is good at both. Limburg is a day trip for me but is a bit steep in terms of the registration fee certainly compared to Retro Ronde which is my other big local ride. Germania requires a two night stay for me and it does not really justify that, as beyond the ride the location is beautiful but there’s not much else going on.

We’ve seen the photos, that’ll take all of 5 seconds.

I like to do a very thorough job.

I occasionally do a very exclusive erioca, its called taking one of my old bikes out, sometimes a mate rides his old one at the same time.

Do you argue with a random stranger about whether a certain component was or was not fitted prior to 1984 for extra authenticity, then check the time on your Apple watch before setting off?

That is an advantage of it being exclusive! Don't tell anyone but I sometimes take the pedals with toeclips off, and put a pair of Look Keo's on and wear my tarty carbon soled shoes, with pink laces, no less. I bought them with the change from not forking out on a weekend camping pass.
I do quite like looking at other peoples old bikes though.....so its swings and roundabouts.

Haven't they dropped the "no clipless" rule? Toeclips with proper slotted cleats in racing shoes are hilariously dangerous, since you have to plan all stops in advance to avoid toppling over.
