being a bloke i don't read instructions I just jump straight in. So I just spent an few angry minutes trying to fit a left pedal to a right crank.

I'm a noob to this cycle lark, are there any other school boy errors i can avoid?

I hope you didn't screw (geddit) the thread ?

I've even done this, in error, not checking on my daughter's bike, fortunately I realised something was up as it was difficult to screw the pedal in by hand.

With pedals, remember Right is right (normal clockwise tighten) and left is wrong !

If you're removing your cranks with a extractor... put it in by hand and not with a wrench... it's too easy to cross the threads with a wrench. If it wont go in by hand, clean the threads until it does.

...and if you don't want to buy an extractor, just loosen the bolts a bit and ride round the block a few times till they loosen, works a treat but you're walking home.

Why should we deprive you of all the fun of making your own mistakes?
