Had to do a few tweaks to #3's bike last week, which included a new rear mech.
I volunteer at a local Bike Project & while i'm good a basic mantainance, i'm no expert & am learning new stuff everyday.
So back to the rear mech, James (another volunteer) fitted it for me, but no matter how hard we tried, fettled, tweaked & twiddled we couldn't get the gearing right, 1,2,3,4,6,7... where did 5 go? It would just skip from 4 to 6.
On another thread it was alked about 7/8/9 speed derailleurs.. & Mickle explained the differnce to me. Thnak you Mickle X
I wondered if this could be the cause of the prob, wrong size mech.
So today Adam (our chief guru on all things bike looked at it)
Apparantly we'd used a 1.1 mech on it & it needed a 1.25... James & I both did the  face!
So, we had a lesson in SRAM shifter.... now I know all about actuation ratios too...

What did you learn today....???

EDIT
Didn't know this pic had been taken until it just appeared on our Facebook page..That's James & I looking very confused, while Alison looks on even more confused!

If drivers look straight ahead when waiting to pull out of a side road, or onto a roundabout, they cannot see you approaching them, and you therefore officially are not there. Or should not be. And most definitely do not have right of way either. Na !
