But the really odd manifestation of the gilet jaune is a fashion for draping them around front car seats.

It's true! Even in rural France, I'd say a third of cars display them. I did, however, think it was to stop the gendarmes from pulling you over to check.

It does look daft (like those in the UK that like to leave them on the back window ledge/shelve parcel) but I didn't realise it had evoked such feelings as to warrant protest groups! And "beaufitude" - what a great word!
