LCC v BC Insurance

One point worth considering - BC's TP insurance is "primary specific" insurance, which means that they cover everything in a claim against you. Other types of insurance may result in the insurer demanding details of whoever else might cover you (i.e. house insurance) and insisting that they settle up their share of the bill, meaning that you've made a claim on that policy too.
I don't know what cover LCC (or others) provide, but it's always best to be aware of these things.

For my money, joining BC was a no-brainer. In addition to the £10,000,000 of TP insurance cover, I got a free set of Pod lights (RRP £45), I get 10% off at Halfords and Chain Reaction and Evans*, plus legal support.
I've had the £32 I paid (it's since gone up to £35) back several times over just using the discount at Halfords - which is off everything, even sale or other reduced stuff.

* - it seems that Evans aren't officially on the discount list, but I've asked when making a purchase in store and got the discount.

The only potential issue with BC is that you aren't covered if the claim involves another BC member apparently

Err sorry about that.I replied to it.

Hopefully that shouldn't be too much of a problem where I cycle as cars are more lethal.Unless said car driver has the same I guess.
Yes that's the point, many car drivers do also ride bikes or cyclists drive cars

That's interesting, the two articles seem to give conflicting advice. That is not good.
I actually chose not to get BC insurance because of this clause, but now I see it's ok.

The https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/legalsupport is about legal advice, not the insurance itself. IE they won't help you sue another BC member or an official/committee member/officer, because they use the same legal firm. A law firm cannot act for both parties in a case, it's a conflict of interest.

So if you are in a collision with another BC member, the injured party will have to find their own lawyer if they need help making a claim against the BC insurance. If two BC members are in a collision, and both take action against the other, they would each have to find their own lawyer. BC would probably have to engage a second law firm to act in one of the cases as there would be a conflict in defending both, but that's irrelevant to the individual members.

(Grew up with lawyers, but not a lawyer. The above is not legal advice.)
