LBS clamping carbon seatpost?

I have a new seat-post, a carbon one, and was a bit surprised today to see the mechanic at my favourite LBS clamp the post. I asked about this and he said that it was fine and that the pressure exerted was considerably less than the 5nm used to clamp the post to the frame...BUT...still not convinced.

Am I worrying about nothing?

I would be much more nervous if they clamped the down tube. The seatpost is the recommended place to clamp with carbon.

for next time, buy an old steel seat post and change over before giving to the LBS.
I clamp carbon post and have never had any problem. But wouldn't do anything that would stress it the wrong way.
At the end of the day they are tough old things, having to take our body weight.
