There has been a lot of hedge cutting around my way recently. Thorns are a nightmare even with decent tyres.

Only other thing to do is to 'hammer' the inside of the tyre where you are getting repeat punctures with something heavy, to break or blunt the embedded sharp that you haven't found. (Works for me, especially for slows.)

Glass will go straight through in the wet. I've had two in recent weeks - both glass that had put enough of a slit in the tyre and tube - glass gone when checked. do double check your tyres for glass stuck in it - it will work it's way through in the wet.

Also more punctures can mean new tyre time - examine the tyre and if you have a pronounced flat area, or the main tread is getting thinner than the rest, replace.

Is that due to the wet or the increase in the amount of crap on the roads since the students came back!

....i know you can pick up punctures more often in the rain due to glass collecting on side of road etc but is this common??.?

Yes. I practically never get fine weather punctures, if I do they are thorns or strange things like staples and nails. In the wet the tyre picks up glass and other sharp bits of stuff that work their way in (probably lubricated by water), rain tends to wash the debris towards the edge of the road too- so there'll be more of it about.

Puncture-resistant tyres- there are a number of different brands/ models etc- really do help.
