Went out on the MTB last night with some other members of Backburn Bikers, we had a FANTASTIC ride! The trails were crisp and crunchy under wheel, we could ride with our HID and LED lights switched off as there was so much light, dog walkers and skulking chavs were amazed to see us riding bikes, we enjoyed some cracking downhills through woods, flights of steps, singletrack, it was brilliant. At one point we stopped for a gate and could smell a nasty oily skunk-like odour; one of the lads reckoned there was a fox hiding a few yards upwind of us.

What a great evening! And I didn't even have to wash the bike when I got home.

I got out during the day on tuesday after it had snowed, up on winter hill I saw noone and had fresh tracks, as you say it was great not to have to wash the bikes. Hoping to get out later today!

I might do that on one of the rides near me, I used to ride with a group from Manchester, mainly riding south of manchester but now mos of my rides are on my own as I don't get use of a car as much. Darwen is an easy enough ride from me though.

Lucky buggers - I need to get my retro rigid mtb back into proper MTB duties... and apparently, since I last went MTB'ing, there are loads of routes near me - i.e. Kinder Scout area........ we used to make our own...back then (15 years ago..but we were a bunch of roadies messing with knobbly tyred bikes)

The same routes are there that were always there, they are called bridleways! Some great riding out in the peaks.
