Errrr.....
I've nearly got everything together to do a road bike build, all I need to get now is a seat post and some quick release skewers.

I'm not really sure what to get, and they're the sort of things where you can spend a little or a lot. Should I be looking to spend the extra on "good" stuff or not? Or are they an example of some basic equipment that is perfectly fine at the lower end, and the extra money is buying marginal benefits? For example Campag road skewers are 30 quid from the LBS, but you can get generic road/MTB skewers for less than half that. Similarly, I'm looking to use a Brooks B17N saddle so don't know if I'm as well going for a bog standard alloy seatpost, or even if the fancy alloy or carbon upgrades are compatible with something so Old Skool, let alone worth spending extra for.

It would be nice to have everything ready for the long weekend, but can anyone bring some clarity to my thought processes?

Interesting! Are the carbon seat posts able to take a Brooks?

They are basic items on a bike. First thing to upgrade on any bike are the wheels.
Already got the wheels, I guess I'm asking is it worth getting the bling for these basic items now, or make do with the basic stuff?

Think carbon seatposts should be fine with a brooks, since clamps are more or less universal minus a few exceptions of no particular note. Apparently carbon is more comfortable, and since ProBikeKit were doing a carbon seatpost in clearance for £10 two days ago, it might be worth it ;)

27.2mm unfortunately, I'm after 26.8mm.

Another thing that's occured to me: is the clamp included if I buy a seatpost?

I measured mine and hopefully I measured right, at 27.2. Unlucky there Archie. And no, I don't think clamps are usually included as standard.
