Hopefully an eyecatching thread title...

A couple of years ago I ordered a replacement rim off the Bay of E for a wheel which was generally kept for winter use. I then got busy with other projects and forgot about it until now.
The replacement rim is a Mavic CXP Elite. I'm sure it was supposed to have eyelets but I didn't inspect it closely when it arrived and I now realise that they are missing.

The spoke holes are 5.5mm in diameter. The nipples from the old rim are about 6.0mm in diameter, they don't pull through the holes but I suspect they would if under tension.

Are nipples available with a larger diameter flange? If not is it possible / difficult / easy to source and fit eyelets?

You need nipple washers.

Lets see a picture of the rim focusing on one or two spoke holes. This is what it is supposed to look like.

"CXP Elite (single eyelet) and 'CXP' (no eyelet) rims. These are based on the same extrusion design as CXP 22."
Looks like the OP bought/received the latter. Loads of resource out there for the need for washers (@si_c ahead of the curve again).

I get what yoiu say, but there should be no need for nipple washers for any non-eyeletted rim. Nowadays most rims dont' have eyelets. We need to see that close-up.

I have some non-eyelet rims in the attic. Let me go mesure their spoke holes...hang fire..

i have measured eyeletted and non-eyeletted spoke holes and both are 4mm exactly.

There is some scullduggery going on. No rim I have ever worked with had holes that large.

It looks like the holes are eyelet-ready but missed the next phase of production i.e. having eyelets fitted. Those holes seem huge. I can't see how a washer would help. I've not seen washers that go on the spoke nipple just washers that go on the j-bend. I'm not saying they don't exist, I've just never come across them. I need to get out more.

Could this be relevant here:

But those reduction nipples are easier to deform when tensioning, so requires more careful doing.
So what about load bikes and ebikes, which tend to use heavier 13g and 12g spokes? In this context we find a much greater range of rim hole sizes, ranging from between 4.3mm and 5.5mm in diameter
...
Pictured here, from left to right, are three different 13g nipples made by Sapim: a 13g reduction nipple; a 13g standard polyax nipple; and an oversized 13g nipple. One of these options should be a good fit for almost any ebike or cargo bike wheel you find yourself working on. But please remember that due to the reduced material thickness of the 13g reduction nipple, it is more susceptible to deforming at high spoke tension. A high quality and well-fitting spoke wrench is of critical importance when working on any wheel, and especially if working with the reduction nipples.

I agree. Just strange that the labeling is correct for non-eyelet rims. But as you say, this looks like a factory oopsie sold on by an unscrupulous e-bayer.

You are correct about the j-bend washers, but I have in my collection somewhere oval-shaped nipple plates that I used on early carbon rims. Let me go and fight cobwebs and see if I can find them.
