I am considering joining a work group who are planning to ride Lands End to John Ogroats next summer..June 2013...I am really interested and wonder what sort of training I would need to do? (expect ride the bike a lot ) I am aged 56...obvious 57 next summer a a keen runner and cyclist. I am a member of a running club and run frequent 10k's and half marathons (half marathon time 1hr 38mins) I cycle to and from work each day...which is about a 20mile round trip...so I would presume all I would need to do is up the cycling and enter a few 100k and 100mile events in preparation....what advice can you offer? We would be cycling in a group of approx 5 starting at John Ogroats and staying in prebooked b&b's

I'm 58 and I am considering doing it next year with other members of our club. We will take a leisurely 14 days and I don't think I will be the oldest in our group.

Im 59 in a few days and plan on doing it in Autumn. I expect to survive. I will be doing around 130 mile days in England, around 100 mile days in Scotland. Audaxing is a good way of getting longer rides in and sorting out how to handle hydration etc over a long day's riding.

Huh - just kids! Did JOGLE at 58 and LEJOG at 63 in 2010 - planning "the double" (home at Stratford-upon-Avon to JOG to LE and back home) in 2013 or possibly 2014.

My "training" for JOGLE which I did in June was just to ride one 100km Audax each months from Jan - May and a few 30 or 40 mile rides on odd weekends. You get cycle-fit very quickly on the E2E!
