Has anyone out there taken part in the above before - if so, how does it compare to the Manchester version?

This one?

Not done it or the m/c 100 myself but I'd choose it over the m/c 100 just because it's a more interesting route.

There's a forum ride in Yorkshire that day which clashes or I'd consider it.

This is a really, really good ride and is my personal favourite of all the charity sportives. It's expensive to enter, around £60, by the time you've guaranteed some sponsorship, but it is organised by the charity and all the funds end up in the right place. The route basically follows the northern loop of the Lancashire Cycleway, lovely scenery, good climbs, some nice rolling sections and a very flat finish - usually with a bastard headwind!
