Yes I can, Yes I am, Yes I did...Repeat.
...here i am standing infront of the PC starkers. Why? Well this is the bit I dont get and why I am posting this serious question:

Just 5 minutes ago I was dressed in 5 layers of cycling shirts and jackets, longs, over trousers, two pairs woolen socks, balaclava...the works....I had just returned from my loop...I sat down and instantly started shivering...so why is it that I am now warmer with out all those clothes than I was with them?xx(

In Italia is lovely taking clothes off in front of PC. Only wearing lycra shorts and no undercrackers xx(

No....because your clothes were damp from sweat and as soon as you stopped exercising and creating heat the evaporation began to chill you down rather efficiently.

It's why I always change into something dry the minute I finish a ride, especially a cold wet night ride.

Does the "you won't feel the benefit" theory come in somewhere here as well?

My take on it too.

It's easy to think that the thing to do when you are cold is to pile on the layers when that is, somewhat counter intuitively, exactly the wrong thing to do. Less is more in certain cases, as long as you're active and generating some body heat. Frankie says "Sweat chills".

This thread is useless without pictures!!!

Was just thinking the same actually. Back from a run. All toasty warm apart from arctic hands, and within 5 mins indoors I'm shivering. Always the same after exercise. Blood sugar maybe?

I'm also the same.
We were pondering why last year, though it might be something to do with your heart pumping blood to your muscles when you're exercising, then after you've finished exercising it takes a while to stop doing that and divert it back to your core.
