Does such a thing exist?

Up until now I've been riding in a pair of MoreMile shorts (http://moremile.co.u...4327&P_ID=40251) which do their job well but, like most, sit on the waist which I find a bit uncomfortable. So I bought a pair of bike boxers (http://www.wiggle.co...ool-bike-boxer/) which fit perfectly and are very comfy, but as they are so short they leave my legs a little bare to the elements when it's windy (which it usually is!) and raining.

I can wear something over the boxers but ideally I would like something which covers a bit more leg (just above knee would be great, with padding!) and sits on my hips. I'm doubtful I'll find any, but was wondering if anybody knew of such shorts?!

(I'm a size 8 if it makes any difference)

You won't find anything because cycling shorts are designed to be longer at the back to cover the small of your back when you're bent over on the bike.

Shorts can be a personal thing, the very best may not suit an individual for some reason, but from what you say you have not yet experienced proper, decent cycling shorts.

Try endura mt500 or endura fs260 pro shorts. Quality at a reasonable price.

And before anyone else suggests bargain stuff from the supermarket or similar, they are talking out of their ####.

If you cycle regularly, £50+ is money well spent, and if you dont its still worth it

I also don't like the high cut of cycling shorts because I'm more used to my normal clothes sitting on my hips (not below!), but I haven't been able to find something that replicates that.

I'd second the comment re bib shorts if you're not a fan of the elastic sitting on your waist. Wiggle's dhb ones are a nice fit. Check the sizing on the website

I'd add that endura do good cycling shorts, the most comfortable ones I have are mavic and orca where the waistband sits well on the waist. You won't find ones that sit on the hips though as Helen has already given the reason as to why they are cut that way

Be wary when spending a lot - you may inadvertently buy racing shorts, and unless you are racing, racing shorts are not what you want - designed as they are for 100% fat free whippets. Most good quality general porpoise wimmins shorts address the common problem of too tight elastic at the waist and leg by using a deeper elasticated band.

Corrine Dennis and Georgina Terry - (if you can find them) are made by normal wimmin for normal wimmin.

Yes the bibs can be a pain for that reason and they can also beincomfortable across the chest if you're of a larger cup size.

I have to disagree mickle re the elastication on loads of womens shorts- myself and several friends get irritated by the fact that the elastic on the legs especially are never designed for women (I think it's been designed from a malecentric point of view) as the elastic is always too tight on the leg.

I've heard good things about the two brands you mention above, not tried it myself but I live in hope that they don't have the tiny tight leg elastic!!

Sorry, what I was trying to say is that cheap wimmins shorts and expensive shorts intended to be worn by fat free racing whippets often have skinny elastic at the waist and leg. More enlightened brands (such as CD and Terry) use a wider waist band and leg gripper strip in recognition of the needs of regular shaped wimmin.

The legs and waistbands are indeed comfortable on the Corinne Dennis shorts. However, I didn't find the pad anything special and the more cotton-like fabric means they take forever to dry, even in a tumble dryer. That's probably no so much of a problem for most people but useful for touring.

As people have said they won't exist. When I ride in normal clothes I find the fact they sit on the hips means I am constantly pulling trousers up or tops down so as not to have a builders bottom. For longer rides where a waist strap would really annoy me I go for bibs. day to day I have no problem with waist shorts.
