Today I planned to go out for a ride, I was hoping for some countryside - no rush, just to enjoy it. It's the nicest the weather's been in a long time, 17C.

Got ready, had some bran flakes, a banana and a zipvit energy bar. Drank plenty of water before I left and brought plenty with me on the bike. Left the house, after about 20 minutes on the bike - no energy. All gone, felt fine and then I hit a brick wall. Drank some water, tried riding some more, legs felt like jelly.

Popped into a shop and bought a chocolate oat bar type thing, ate it and tried cycling again, still nothing. Ended up having the worst ride home, was moving very very slowly and had to stop a few times (bearing in mind that it's uphill but I never have to stop and I'm normally pretty quick up it).

Any ideas? I thought cereal, banana, energy bar and then another bar would be more than enough.

You're having an off day??
Happens to the best of us. Don't dwell on it.

Seems like it. Will try and get a good nights sleep and go out tomorrow if the weather's decent.

Sure you haven't got a flat? Brake pads rubbing on your rims?

Definitely sure. Tinkered with my bike last night to get it running smooth, there's a few issues that I can't fix but none of them should slow me down.

What are the issues? It's a Triban 3 isn't it? Mine arrived on Thursday! Just been out of a ride - brilliant!

Issues that are mostly my fault. Back wheel's untrue (potholes!) and the hood cover ripped (can't stay upright while cycling ). Great bike, how you enjoying yours?

The untrue might have something to do with it? It's lovely, great to ride, just fitted a Decathlon trip computer,

Would that be the Count 8 computer? They look pretty sleek. I think the wheel might have something to do with it, I loosened off the brakes so that they weren't rubbing but it feels like the hub is 'grinding' when I'm free wheeling and I can hear a slosh of water when it stops spinning. Might need disassembled and regreased by my LBS.

Yes that's the one, Count 8. £20. Easiest computer I've ever fitted. I'd definitely take it to the LBS ASAP

I think it'll be a bit pricey to get the wheel fixed. Considering Decathlon sell replacements wheels for £25, it's making me wonder if it's better to just get a new one.

Maybe your blood sugars took a dive after all that food (due to insulin surge in your system)? Saying that it was probably all just swilling around in your stomach. What did you eat the evening before?

I had spaghetti bolognese at around half 6 the night before. I had some bran flakes at 11am this morning along with a banana and then I had a energy bar about 20 minutes before I left around 1. I would have thought I'd have digested it all.
