Please know I am not wishing to hijack any other L2P threads but was worried I may have tentatively agreed to somethign really STUPID....

2013 - London to Paris in 24 hours

Seems like a hell of a barrier both mentally and physically. My understanding is that fairly straight and flat (as possible) route in largish groups. We will be a team of 5 or 6.

I am not a 'cyclist' but did a big trip in May after 3m training. Used to be fit but now a fatty.

Longest ever in a day is 105 miles or so. COuld have gone quicker and longer.... (as we were sooooooo slowwwwww......) not because I was any hero

So, on a scale of 1-1000, two questions:

A) How Stupid is this? (1 being not at all) and

B) How hard or impossible/doable is this? (1 being not at all)

Thanks - bit scared even though 18m build up!

 (although that will have to be the last)

My younger sister did it this year and enjoyed it - not too hard and the only rush was at the end with the millions of traffic lights on the way into Paris.

I should add that she'd just qualified for Paris-Brest-Paris so had a couple of 600km rides under her belt by this stage of the game  and, of course, she shares my genes  while being somewhat younger and slimmer

it's eminently do-able, particularly if you go through Newhaven and Dieppe.

We'll assume that's a good thing ;).

To OP. Virtually anything is possible on a bike and fitness.

It depends how much you want to suffer. The more training and conditioning you do beforehand will mean you will suffer less.
Actually I'm not sure that's even helpful is it.

It's do-able as regards average speed if you keep the rest stops to a minimum - but it is going to be a grueller stamina wise.

I'd try and get a few long trips in before hand.
