The frame on my s/h Kona came with some assorted chips and scratches, only a couple had gone below the base coat which is black.

The frame colour is a kind of light grey/blue - I bought some Humbrol paints and from the tin lid, the gloss grey looked a perfect match but the actual paint was much lighter, so I mixed it with some blue paint and got a closer match, it's less obvious but still obvious!

Has anyone got any suggestions - anyone found a good match for their 08 Paddywagon? Otherwise I'll have to get a darker grey and try remixing. Or just live with a little mild acne!

Head over to konaworld.com, go to the tech support forum (you'll need to sign up to read it - for some reason, as a guest, you only see a few older threads). The staffer on there will probably be able to get you the exact details if not a bottle of touch up!

Kona website says they don't give paint colours even, but advise to get a local paint shop to colour match.

I managed to get pretty close with Humbrol '40' grey (which is a bit light) and mixed with a drop of black. It's not a perfect match, just a tad darker than the original colour but I could try again, mixing less black in, but it'll do for now!

Had a though. I've recently looked into power coating a bike frame and when it came to choosing a colour, the firm asked if I had a preferred RAL colour. It's a standardised colour specification system for paint - sort of like those dulux colour charts but an international standard.

You can get RAL charts online but they are estimations due to monitor and printer settings. You can buy official ones but I would think if you go to a local specialised paint shop, they may let you compare the chart to the bike. Then you can order the correct enamel or acrylic paint to match the RAL number.
