Recently a fellow cyclist told me my knees go inwards while i pedel. he said that i should get myself fitted properly if i'm serious about cycling and that it could lead to knee problems.

i think it might be because
i overpronate. i had to get specially fitted running trainers to bring my foot into alignment. it might not be this... i might just have a terrible technique!

its not something i've noticed
before but am really aware of it now.

I see loads of cyclists who do really weird things with their knees!
You'll need to make sure your cleats are correctly positioned. And also talk to your podiatrist about the over pronation and orthotics for cycling

If you know you have an issue, I'd see a podiatrist. I went for bg soles, but no idea if they are correct. I need to discuss orthotics with my physio really. Just the list of stuff to address is always so long at each appointment, I forget the really important stuff!

Most good cyclists, especially women, pedal knees in. It's more efficient than knees out. You need to sort out persistent pain. though.

More likely the pain is from a low seat and/or not spinning enough.
I'm conscious of my knees sometimes going inwards, mainly because my knees knock occasionally walking.
But I can assure you that it is seat height and high gearing that causes me any knee problems.

A month or so ago I got too confident on my high geared 531 road bike. But only 10 or so miles of the hilliest miles caused me to be near enough be unable to walk the following day. My right hip also still pains me again since. I have simply not used that bike, it is due a gearing overhaul.

I pedal with my knees in too. It just comes naturally to me. I'm not generally troubled by knee pain.

Knees in is better than knees out imo.
My thighs often rub the top tube.
But i sometimes walk with a slight pigeon toe.
