hi all I have become enveloped in cycling and all things bike related but would like it if I come included my girlfriend in my obsession the only problem is she has knee problems (artificial left knee total knee replacement ) and I was wondering if anyone or knows of anyone who has similar problems but managed to cycle I know I should research this properly but would appreciate your thoughts thanks cycling masses

Can't comment on a knee replacement, I would imagine her quack would be best placed to answer questions on its longevity.

However I have a buggered knee following a rather bad fractured tibial plateau that as left me with a rod, plate and half a dozen bolts in the general area. This led me to excessive pain until I started to use Speedplay Frog pedals that allow your foot to 'float' freely on the pedal so your knees are always aligned how the naturally want to be, highly recommended

I also can't talk around knee replacements, but I have have two acl reconstructions and cycling has really helped my knee. Strengthens the muscles needed to stabilise my knee and gives the quads and hamstrings good strength. If you can get good pedals,I would say she should def try it... Short trips to start.

Certainly check with the surgeon. However, might be worth joining and posting in here http://www.kneeguru.co.uk/KNEEtalk/index.php?board=7.0

I know someone who cycles on a partial knee replacement but a TKR is a bigger piece of kit. She should certainly be led by any discomfort, hills may well prove problematic, but I am sure gentle pootling along a towpath or similar would be beneficial
