I recenty got hold of one of these, believe it or not it was on the rag and bone cart. I think it's straight, there's a bit of chain suck damage on the chainstay and a light ding on the top tube but it seems straight. It's a naked frame, I was thinking of building it up but I have bikes to cobble dogs just now and a mate's brother is interested.

I know these went for a lot of money, itwas their XT/XTR variant. It needs shotblasting and refinishing, and a rear mech hanger.

Any idea of value?

Oh bloody great, just heard from Plod that this matches the description of a stolen bike. Arse bollocks. Brilliant. If it is stolen then they'll be having it off me, no doubt.

The only thing I can find to be happy about is that they are actually taking the time to recover stolen property that some scumbag has nicked. I can't imagine the Police trawling every bike forum for potentially stolen bikes though, it must be the theft victim keeping an eye out on the net and reporting any similar bikes popping up.

I must admit I can't understand why anyone would nick a (presumably working) bike and unbolt a few bits before dumping the rest for tje rag and bone man. Surely they'd just sell it as a working bike?

I've left my number with the police, no doubt they will be back to me with a description of what was stolen. I'll report back if it does match, assuming I don't get shipped to Australia, hanged or sent to Armley for some extensive buggering by Big Jim in the cells.

Aye well, had the Poliss round today and they've talen it away. It does indeed match the description of the nicked one, apparently, so I doubt I'll be seeing this one again.

Still, on the plus side, they are hoping to get fingerprints off it so they may be able to match those with some known burglars in the area. Hope mine don't match. Like Bob Dylan's line: "I'm back home investigating myself. Hope I don't find out too much."

The copper was just as perplexed as I was that a whole bike was apparently stolen and the frame ended up being put out for the rag and bone boys, reckons maybe the tasty bits have been put on the thieves own bikes.

So, that's about it on the positive side, someone had his bike nicked is at least going to get *most* of it back. The frame at least. That and the fact that the WPC who was also on the case was *very* nice looking. She can call again any time.

Hi battered. I just wanted to say thank you as it looks like I'm going to be reunited with my beloved bike. It was stolen along with 2 Spesh Stumpjumpers from my garage in Kirkstall a few weeks ago. I had been looking out for the Klein on the internet as there aren't too many around and I was amazed when I read your first post above which perfectly described my (slightly dented) frame. The bike and I have been through a lot together and it was last set-up as my daily commuter for the Kirkstall Rd and the canal into Leeds. I'd just spent a couple of hundred pounds on doing it up (yet again) until our night-time visitor relieved me of it and seemingly stripped it for parts!!

Anyway, thanks again for rescuing it from the rag and bone man and making it possible for me to be reunited with (most of) the bike.
