I thought they offered a trade in? Otherwise I'd have thought you'd get good money for an Islabike second-hand.

I can't find it at the mo but give me a bit of time and I'll come back with the exact link or contact.

I haven't found anything like the Islabikes. All the other contenders, Marin, Gary Fisher, Trek etc... whilst not bad are a tadge heavy and not cheap. I did find one bike a Taiwanese make I think, it was in a bike shop in Oban, it was a mtn bike but the bloke who sold it thought it was one of the best he'd seen. It seemed well put together and specced but what surprised me when I picked it up was how much lighter than the competition it was and it was significantly cheaper.

I'll do my best to find it and it could be my memory is playing tricks but it might be worth a look.

Islabikes are fantastic. We have 2 and I would not have anything else. A friend (mad keen triathlete like me) "saved" money and bought a cheap full sus bike made of girders, and lo and behold, his son hates cycling!

If an Islabike is a bit costly, look at some of the Coyote range in many bike shops - my son's Maniac is fine, good brakes, fairly light and he loves it.

Our kids have got Scott and Specialized kids bikes but to be honest, if I'd seen the Islabikes before I bought them I would've bought Islabikes. They look ideal for kids.

I'd just bite the bullet and buy one. Buy anything else and you're going to regret it

Making a young child ride a single speed - surely the NSPCC should be informed?;)
But if his legs are spinning can't you just whack a dirty great triathlon chainring and broom-handle seatpost on there till his birthday? Job done. Or just change his birthday.

Single speed Bonj, not fixed.

yes, SINGLE SPEED. Single speed are worse than fixed. At least fixies have the momentum thing going on, single speeds are just pointless.

Only a month till christmas sounds like a good pressie to me. I am sure when the time comes you could sell 2nd hand on here at a good price.

My first bike at age 4 was a fixed wheel! No lie, it also had solid rubber tires. I had no idea what a badass I was at the time!

I'm about to start the process of persuading my brother to shell out for an Islabike for my niece (I'll offer some cash up towards it to help), but he's not too flush with cash so I'm not optimistic!

Another vote for the Islabikes here, although I bought my five year old a Beinn 20 last Xmas and he hasn't even used it. Just dug his heels in. Said to him last week that we're off to Center Parcs next week and what's he gonna do? "I'd better go out on the bike then". I should coco.

My eight year old is growing out of his Beinn 24. So probably the Beinn 26 next, for him.
Mind you that Creig 26 MTB looks tasty............ Bit of a price jump tho'.

I am half tempted by Islabikes (apart from the fact bikes have been stolen from my son's school bike shed - hopefully local yobs wouldn't want it as it didn't have suspension). What size is your 8 year old that he's outgrowing the Beinn 24? I have a 7 1/2 yo. I feel the sizing of Islabikes are different to the normaly produced ranges. He's currently on a 20" bike.

I supose the only way to tell is to get upto Birmingham sometime and see.

No look finding that bike I talked about in my post. It was Evo cycles in Oban where I saw them but they're not on the website. Might be worth a call though.
