Kickstand question

I know I'm a total noob for asking this but here goes. Just fitted a 2 leg kickstand to the pashley and me n the boyfriend have a disagreement.
The back wheel is approx 2.5" off the floor. I think both wheels should be on the floor, for stability. He says not. ( It's the pletscher one so it can be cut down. )
So..? 

The back wheel is approx 2.5" off the floor - correct
if both wheels were on the ground it could roll down an incline

Unless the Pashley you're talking about looks like this, then only one wheel should be on the floor.
