Following on from my guitar thread after we got given a classical / spanish guitar and a 3/4 one for kids, I happened to see some used keyboards on the sucessor to Amazon Warehouse for returned / refurbed items. I was taught piano for a few years as a primary school kid but my musical family genetics missed me by a country mile!! My piano teacher gran told my parents I had no coordination to play the piano so was not worth bothering with. I heard that last year along with the follow up that she could do something with my sister if they lived closer. Bear in mind she was the teacher kids got sent to to get them ready for the higher exams and indeed music schools such as Royal School of Music entrance exams so she knows what it takes.
I am thinking that without the pressure of having to do it without wanting to I want to do it without the pressure of having to. So why not buy a keyboard cheaply and try to learn again as an adult with interest in it?
My question is what to get,. I am never going to do this well or want to spend much on it. I will probably end up with a keyboard on a table with it stashed away when not used in some nook or cranny (probably tucked into a corner at the side of a chest of drawers on its side). What is a good, cheap brand to look out for on the used sites such as Amazon Warehouse?
Another piece of advice is how to self teach? I used to be able to kind of sight read and theory was pretty easy for me back then. I reckon I could just find some music and play. Are there free online sources of music?
PS I might end up starting other music posts as I might move on to say banjo, ukele, sitar or whatever grabs my attention. However for now it is keyboards. Thanks.
