Today I purchased a Kryptonite, Kryptolok series 2. It came with a cable which I was hoping to use to stop the quick release seat being nicked, the cable is to thick to go through the rails, if you know what I mean. Any clever ways to secure the seat. I could take it with me but the mudguard is fixed to the post.

By the way the lock was a bargain in Halfords with a price match from Tredz. £25.94

Do you mean quick release seat post or quick release saddle?
I once saw a video on YouTube where the boy put a small segment of cycle chain through the saddle rails and the post clamp.
It was joined back up with a chain tool and a small piece of flexible rubber around the chain. It wasn't a bad idea for an expensive saddle and you could hardly see the chain under the saddle.

The seat is bolted to the post and the post has a quick release. So the post and seat are easily removed. I suppose getting rid of the quick release clamp and getting a bolt in one would be better.

Once you get the right position buy a seat post clamp that just has a bolt through, as opposed to quick release.

I've seen that, with the chain inside a piece of old inner tube. How many thieves carry a chain tool? Not many I'd hope.

The other trick with saddles is to glue, with silicone, a suitable ball-bearing ball n the head of the Allen bolt that clamps the saddle to the seat post - and to have a bolted clamp on the seat tube, also with a ball bearing glued in.

Stops quick removal by preventing the Allen key going into the bolt head - to remove or adjust you'd, obviously, need to dig out the ball bearing ball from the silicone.

had a brain wave today, found an old padlock, removed seat and post and locked it through the rails to my cable lock. worked a treat and the seat was then not on the bike which may deter thieves a bit more. I also took the quick release clamp with me.
