Had 3 punctures in the last week and seem to be getting one every 2/3 rides which is really starting to annoy me. The routes I use are always different mainly back lanes but I don't really do anything that should be causing so many punctures.
Could my tyres be the problem? I have done about 800 miles on them but they don't look overly worn?!

Check the tread for nicks that might contain sharp things and run your thumb around the inside of the tyre to check for further sharps.

Then do the same on the tape around the inside if your rim. If it looks even suspicious replace it F/R

If you haven't already, check if they're on the inside or outside of the tube and presumably you're getting them in both front and rear? Definitely check the tyre tread and insides for things lodged in the tyres or floating around inside the tyre.

I used to puncture that often on the cycleways here though, because they're so littered with glass and some areas have sharp hedge trimmings. The tyres got progressively worse and were replaced with plenty of tread pattern at only about 300 miles but looked very cut up. I'd rather go a bit slower with puncture proof/resistant tyres, but that's just me

Also when riding your bike on the road, don't ride in the gutter, you will notice lots of stones and bits of broken glass and so on.

As others have said, check that the tyre is clear, also I would consider putting on marathon pluses on your bike, they go down to a 25 width and up to 38 I think, so whether you are on a road bike or a hybrid you can get tyres to fit, not sure about MTB sizing but would be amazed if you can't get them

Make sure they are pumped up correctly. I always run mine at max pressure (some people like to be slightly less) and hardly ever get one even on my 23mm skinnies. I've known newbies mistakenly only inflate to half the pressure which causes pinch p*nctures so get a good track pump and get that pressure up. The pressure is embossed on the wall of the tyre in both bar and psi measurement. I also had a friend trying to pump up her tyres without undoing the valve lol. also, saying the P word out loud summons the P fairy... No bull. ask anyone !

When you get a puncture make sure you check the tire. Sometimes bits of stone, aswell as thorns etc get stuck in the tread and will eventually work their way through. Higher pressures can help deflect foriegn objects, as others have said ( I run mine at 90/95psi on 25's, on rough to reasonable country lanes)

It does,
I put my dust cap on without tighten the valve this morning, mind it was 6.30.
I run mine at a 100, very rarely have probs, I have continental ultra race 23mm, the first must have got something in the tyre from new as it gve me no end of problems, dug it out and it's been fine since, though having moved it to the rear after getting a new one a few weeks ago, it had a rather odd blow out on friday, I think it was because I had pretty poor rim tape (poor so I am) anyway thats the only other problem I have had with them.
I have seen more than one small stone chip go flying, and think glad I ain't in the way of that.

I use Specialized all Condition 700x23 and rarely get punctures. I never go off road, always ride 1m from the gutter and only use bicycle paths as a last resort. On checking my records, I have only had 6 punctures since June 2011. Now, I bet I am going to regret saying that!

I used to get p@@@@@@@s every time I went out as I was using schwalbe cx comp tyres on canal towpath. I changed tyres to marathon pluses 2 months ago and been fine since (touches wood). Good luck and don't get too frustrated.

I use schwebly city jets, they have puncture resistance, they don't work well on gravel paths but they are fantastic on roads, I have done over 100 miles on them and no punctures yet, I highly recommend them, they are quite cheap tyres as well.

If I get one more than every 500 miles or so I count myself unlucky, sometimes its longer, went from Aug to about Nov I cant remember if I had, it wasn't until the rear was thread bare they started.
