Katie Marchant Crash

Just watching the UCI Track Champions League on Discovery Plus. Two riders - Katie Marchant and Alessa-Catriona Pröpster went over the barriers into the crowd. The rest of the racing was cancelled.

I was on catch up so I'm not sure exactly when it happened. Fingers crossed for everyone

Edit. It seems that the worst is a broken arm for Marchant, which while not exactly nice, is a relief. It looked horrific.

I like the edit not the crash. I had it on live whilst I was eating my tea so I didn't really see what happened. They were worried about 2 spectators though :-(

I was there on friday night and there is 1.4 metre barrier now installed on top of the old barrier to stop this kind of accident happening. I was at the commonwealth game event when Matt Walls came over the top just a few yards away from where I was sitting.
It seems no one is too badly injured, but there will probably be calls from certain people for even higher barriers.

What is odd about the incident is the way Propster seems to drive them both up the track. I can only assume that they somehow got entangled with each other.

The perspex barrier seemed to be no barrier - they've both slid right up and over it. I remember seeing someone come over the barriers at Manchester once - awful. I suppose the barriers have done their job if the worst injury is a broken arm.

I noticed the new clear barrier when we were there for the London 3 day some weeks ago. It's clear so you can see the track in front of you but there's a rail on top that happened to be just in my eyeline if I looked at the track on the opposite side.

I wonder if this is a hazard with lots of tracks around the world or is it just specific to this one ?

It was indeed odd. Either Propster went temporarily insane and decided it would be fun to ride off the top of the track, taking Marchant with her or there was a serious loss of control but I'm not at all sure what. I tried to watch it back but I couldn't figure anything out.

I wonder if Propster ended up leaning on Marchant to such an extent that she couldn’t get upright again on her own. Marchant gets pushed away, Propster’s lean becomes a turn, and physics turns the whole thing into a big positive feedback machine.
