I had surgery on my neck a couple of weeks ago, then with the snow and ice I have kept well away from my bike. I am too old in my 60's to bounce like you fit youngsters and I prefer my hips naturally joined, not pinned. This morning looked OK, and I had a few places I wanted to visit so took the hybrid bike. All was fine untill I went through a gate into a park and ended up sideways on sliding beautifully. A nice sheet of ice I didn't see coming. luckily, and it was luck not skill, I stayed upright. The rest of the morning was pretty uneventful until coming home. I hopped off the road onto a shared cycle/footpath, just for a hundred yards. Bombing along enjoying myself and suddenly realised I was on a long stretch of ice that hadn't melted yet. It was dirty which is why I hadn't seen it. Thought I was a gonner, but stayed relaxed and just let the bike freewheel till I cleared it.

Never mind, one shouldn't cycle if you can't take a joke.

I'm supposed to be out with the MTB club this morning but the weather is terrible and there's still ice around and with a ski holiday booked I'm not in a mood to risk a broken wrist or hip.
