Been meaning to post this for a while but today the weather has won !

About six weeks ago I bought my nearly 13 yr old son his first road bike after years of mountain bikes ( to be honest i was really impressed this is what he wanted for xmas rather than something with a plug on it ! ;))

After much searching and advice seeking - Thank you all  - His Trek 1.2 arrived from the LBS ( and my Trek 1.5 did - Well you just have to don't you  - For xmas I even bought my good lady a Trek hybrid so she has a chance of keeping up  )

Been restricted to mostly sunday rides at present (no way will he miss football - even for his new bike ) and I won't allow him to cycle too far but i think it's fair to say we are both addicted and love our new sport.

Only downside:smile: I had never before sworn in front of him but after one or two clowns on four wheels got too close to him I did offer them words of wisdow:smile: Promised I will try not to do it again:smile:

Thanks again for all your words of wisdow

;) taffref, enjoy your new sport!

Good stuff Taffref

It's a great way of spending time with your son especially at that age when it becomes un-cool to hang out with Dad  Jake is 14 and we ride a fair bit together and its surprising what they tell you when your out cycling as opposed to riding in the car or sat watching TV etc etc

On Boxing day my wife had organised that we would all go to her Dad's for lunch  so Jake and i cycled the 28 miles to father inlaws place whilst my wife and daughter took the car although we did cheat by putting the cycle carrier on her car so that we did'nt have to cycle home again

But to be honest the cycle ride down there was the best bit of the day for both of us

Mrs Bongo Bill has no interest in cycling at all. I originally started cycling about three years ago - commuting only. Now, I am considering getting a road bike or perhaps a MTB just for bombing around Richmond Park at weekends. I have certainly have no regrets getting a bike.
