I was watching the Giro this afternoon and got to thinking what happens if you come off your bike and hurt yourself so much that you need an ambulance and you are a quite a bit from home?
How do you get your bike home especially if there is no one to come out and pick it up?

Has anybody had a crash where they have been unconscious or had to travel in an ambulance and couldn't get their bike home straight away?

I really don't know what I'd do.

When I got taken out in 2007 the police took the bike back to the station and kept it till I could pick it up, I've known a local farmer store bikes till they could be picked up after a crash outside his farm.

If I got hit/fell off and was rushed into hospital I wouldn't be too worried about something that can be purchased.
You might not worry about it if you were seriously injured, but you could end up in hospital with superficial injuries and be discharged a couple of hours later. What then?

It's all very well not worrying about your bike if you can afford to purchase a replacement. If my bike went, I'd have to buy something cheap and nasty to replace it.

Oh you have SO much to learn!!

There is sort of a running joke on here that whenever someone has a reasonably minor or medium accident, the first reaction is to completely disregard the cyclist's wellbeing and ask

'Yes, but how's the bike?'

Obviously this depends on the severity of the accident and how well you know the cyclist involved!

I had a not too serious accident a little while ago, I should have sent for an ambulance but I sent for a taxi instead, The driver took me to the hospital then delivered my bike to my home.
