Hi folks,
Great forum with lots of info.
I'm a 41 yr old male from Preston, lancs. just bought a second hand Claud Butler Urban 400, can't afford the really expensive ones yet!!! Anyway about to go on my first ride out and have chosen a route of around 3.5 miles as a starter, and build the miles slowly. Aiming to get out 3 times a week. Any advice? Bike any good???
Thanks
Mark

:welcome: From Evesham.

Take it easy and build the miles up slowly, allow time to rest tired legs!

Yeah just gonna stick with 3.5 for a while and build the miles up. Desperate to get out. Is my choice of bike any good in your opinion?

The best bike is the one you're riding, you'll know when you want to upgrade.

How much time do you spend on the bike each ride? You may be able to go for a longer ride, set a goal like 5 miles, then 10 etc... Don't worry about speed, you will get faster the more you ride.
Not been out yet, need to get lights and hi viz wear!!
Agreed I'll go for the 5 miles and so on :-)

I managed to get some really decent oxford lights from tk max of all places! 4 front led's that flash and 5 rear that have some cool flashing patterns too! Mixed with high vis its a decent set up for night riding!

I started out on my mountain bike 6 months ago going for 3 mile rides before work for exercise. I just built up mile by mile until eventually I was able to do a 36 mile ride to my folks caravan and now upgraded to a road bike.

I've also just signed up for a 54 mile Sportive which although not needed, gives me a good reason to get out and put the miles in.

.Aldi is good for decent inexpensive starter gear & also Sports Direct (lots on here about what starter kit you might require). Lots will laugh at me for saying that but if it gets you out there then so be it. It worked for me!

Stick at it, be patient & have fun!
