Well, not quite 20, its worked out to 19.67 mph over a 9.6 mile ride. Was fairly chuffed with it though, a little motivation is all thats needed (wanted to get home before dark)

Hopefully i manage to stay close to that. Ive covered 200 miles this month with my ave starting at about 14mph and its now improved to a pretty steady 16mph. I think the 20 was a lucky fluke but im working towards it slowly but surely.

If you want to get faster... and up to that 20mph ave.... which means a lot of riding well above 20mph to negate any inclines taken at a slower pace.... get a mate on scootermop in front of you and draft him like your life depended on it.. obviously you'll want to have good conditions.. a good route .. and make sure your mate has mirrors on his damned machine and that he uses them........ avoid roads that are frequented by the bizzies or you will get pulled

Great stuff! You should find a club and start time trialling.

I managed 18.3 over 35 miles the other week, over the moon but knackered.

Even got hit by water pistols along the local coast road, fired from a car full of chavs.

How fast would you say you need to be to not be last place at a local 10 mile TT? Wanting to get involved, whilst also wanting to not embarass myself!

Good effort mate. I am now hitting just over 20mph myself - great feeling isn't it?

My commute into work is 18 miles with a decent little hill in the way, mostly on A roads. The problem is I now find myself constantly hammering it to try and hit 21mph!

30.1mph for 10 miles
29.7mph for 25 miles
28.7mph for 50 miles
26.1mph for 100 miles

All done in TT races.

Ignore aron20..... just a show off with big lungs and no pain receptors.

I think you should just have a go, we have guys who struggle to do 20mph in a ten even on the flat. There is a lot of technique and attitude involved in going fast and you learn as you go along. If you are doing 20 mph on your road bike just out on your own then you should go a bit quicker in a race as you should be more motivated but if you are last don't worry you won't always be last if you can do 20 mph

Ave speeds mean so little... they have no real significance in a training / racing environment.
You can either accept that or not, I aint bothered.
It is about power, however.
Sadly I can't afford the necessary to measure that at the crank on the road,
(I wouldnt waste my money on the Polar 'wind' system either, as it is too inaccurate.)
